Overall Rules

  • All USGA rules are in effect.

  • The only exceptions are local rules mandated by the course (TBD) and our specific tournament variations as described below

Matches & Scoring

  • All games are matchplay - best ball (scramble format).

  • Whichever team wins the most holes (not skins or stroke difference) wins the match.

  • 1 point per match. Ties count as 1/2 point each.

  • 6.5 points to win championship

  • In the event of an overall tie (6:6), the Winner will be determined as follows:

    • Sudden death playoff holes (1 twosome per team head to head - if course access can be arranged)

    • Otherwise - Cumulative count of CTPs over all 4 rounds (best of 7)

  • Losing team pays for dinner on Saturday night

Longest Drive & Closest-to-Pin

  • There will be specific holes identified for Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin competitions

  • Over the 4 rounds, there will be 4 LDs (1 per round) and 7 CTPs (2 per round, except Wed which will only have 1).

    • The exception ensures odd number of competitions overall to help determine overall 'winners' in case of a tie

  • Individuals compete. Results are attributed to the team.

  • These competitions will be tracked separately from the match-ups and not count towards championship (except to break tie)

  • Losing team of these competitions may be punished each day in some way (serving winning team drinks?, etc). Punishment must be determined prior to starting first matches on Wednesday.

Sequence of Play (Scramble)

  1. Both players shoot from tee.
  2. Team selects best result and both players take next shot from there (pick up other ball).

  3. Repeat for each shot until hole is completed.

Quotas & Mulligans

  • Team members can play in any order for any shot, regardless of whose ball was selected

  • There are no rules related to number of shots from each player that must be used on any hole or during any match

  • No shooting 3 off the tee.

  • No mulligans

  • No 'hit til you're happy'

Ball Placement & Penalties

  • Fairways & Rough

    • Player A (selected shot)

      • May lift, clean and place the ball within 6 inches of where it sits, no closer to the hole.

      • The ball must be placed in the same general lie (fairway, rough, fringe) but can be moved out of divots, mud, etc

    • Player B (non-selected shot)

      • Gets 1 club length from original spot, no closer to hole.

      • Does not have to be in same lie.

  • Sand

    • If the selected ball (Player A) is in a sand trap, the ball cannot be touched/moved and must be played where it lies.

    • Player B may drop/place a ball within 1 club length of original spot, as described above, but must also be in the sand

  • On Greens

    • Both players must play ball from the exact spot on green (mark, lift, clean, place)

  • Water Hazard

    • Normal rules apply - see below for clarification

    • Yellow Stakes, Lines, or No Stakes (standard water hazard)

      • Play from "drop" location (if designated by course).

      • If no drop location available - Drop ball behind point of entry into hazard in straight line with, and no closer to the hole.

      • 1 stroke penalty

    • Red Stake (lateral hazard)

      • Ball can be placed max 2 club lengths from point of entry into hazard, no closer to hole

      • 1 stroke penalty

  • Out of Bounds

    • All OBs play as lateral hazards

    • Ball can be placed max 2 club lengths from point of entry into hazard, no closer to hole.

    • 1 stroke penalty

  • Lost Balls

    • If ball is lost in field of play (presumed lost, anywhere that is not marked OB or hazard)

    • Both teams agree on the drop location, closest to where ball should have been

    • 1 stroke penalty
